The COA minister’s six initiatives, which include an emergency food reserve mechanism and advanced agricultural and irrigation technologies, highlight the government’s recent policymaking accomplishments and the value of Taiwan’s APEC participation.
The two-day meeting on food safety sees senior officials from APEC member economies gather to address key issues of promoting sustainable agricultural development while facilitating sector-wide trade and investment programs.
Chen is scheduled to bring his counterparts up to speed on recent government policy adjustments and strategies made to combat the impact of climate change on agriculture. He will also share Taiwan’s experience in managing natural disasters.
As host economy representative for August’s APEC Food Security Forum, Chen is expected to deliver findings and recommendations made during the event.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the APEC ministers will issue a joint declaration and unveil an action plan to increase food access and promote food safety in the region. (JSM)
